KIITians design Electric Bike

‘Electric Bike’ has been conceptualized by KIIT Automotive Society. The project aims to build a 125-150 cc engine capacity motorcycle, meant for urban use or use in short distance transport. The motorcycle will be converted to provide maximum efficiency on its limited battery, provide speeds of approximately 50 kilometres per hour. It is meant to be a new concept for cheap production and efficient running. The motorcycle involves an average 70V power supply to a PMDC motor along with an attached microcontroller. A combination of four approximately 18V batteries supplies power to the whole setup.

KIITians design Solar Rickshaw

‘Solar Rickshaw’ is one of the many endeavors to create an eco-friendly ambience around KIIT University's 17 campuses spread over 25 sq. km area. The project is a technology-business initiative to be implemented across the campus network to enable mobility, while keeping costs and carbons low. Drawing power from the sun, the batteries charge themselves while waiting for students or visitors to take a ride. The in-wheel motor can pull a payload of 250 kilograms on average slope for considerable distances. With nine months of plentiful sunshine supply and ample demand for cheap intra-campus transport, this project from SIFE KISS-KIIT is a viable alternative to eco-choking petroleum-based transport modes.transport modes.

KIITians design economic, eco-friendly electric vehicle

Four students of engineering stream of KIIT University have developed a three-wheel rechargeable (battery operated) vehicle at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh. The vehicle, conceptualized by KIIT Automotive Society, can be customized for different requirements. It has been developed completely in-house with the use of KIIT infrastructure. For the first time it was exhibited in the science expo at 99th Indian Science Congress. Dipam Chaterjee, Harsh Shyam, Akhilesh Devangam of Mechanical Engineering and Pratik Patnaik of Electric Engineering have made this economic and eco-friendly vehicle.

I Systems: KIIT Students

The first version of I-systems, called I-waiter 1.0, is capable of dispensing water bottles when desired. This version can be used in concert, formal gathering, official meeting and all other organized places. Another version for this is the I-secretary. This system is capable of working in an office providing office stationary, reading predefined memos, etc. Yet more interesting version for I-system comes from the idea of the guides, who accompany tourists, giving out information about the place and event. So does this version of I-guide. This version has an inbuilt module which enables it to speak out information and important facts about the place like in museums or science parks.

Detection of Faults in Pipes by KIIT Students

A team of students belonging to SME have designed a project which deals with the investigation of cracks in a thin cylinder with the aid of an electromagnet and strain gauge. For this, a closed thin cylinder was designed and fabricated to take the shape of a pressure vessel. The closed cylinder was then equipped with valve that allows unidirectional flow of fluid (that is air in this case). Air is given to the cylinder with the help of a foot pump. The pressure is determined with the help of pressure gauge mounted on the top of cylinder. The internal pressure results in the enlargement of cracks and production of strain. Once the position of crack is determined its depth can also be found out by the help of strain gauge. With these information, it can be figured out whether the vessel is safe for use and what can be done to increase the life of pressure vessel or pipes.

HHO: KIIT Students

HHO is a move away from fossil fuels. Hydrogen fuel does not occur naturally on Earth. Thus, it is not an energy source, but an energy carrier. However, it can be produced from a wide range of sources. A team of students belonging to SME used water as the source. Main aim of the project is to develop a vehicle which runs on water. The whole process comprises of few steps.

    • Production of hydrogen by electrolysis of water
    • Controlled combustion of hydrogen
    • Generation of mechanical energy by controlled combustion
    • Using the mechanical energy to run vehicles

I FLEX : KIIT Students

Artificial intelligence (AL) is the intelligence of machines. KIIT students have developed a project to help the paralytics or those who have lost their arms or legs in accident. The system has been implemented with the use of hardware mainly consisting Flex Sensors, Processing unit and the AC control unit. Flex sensors basically give us the change in the voltage across it. And the variation of the voltage is passed through the processing unit which is basically a MICRO CONIROLLER. A MICRO CONIROLLER Unit is used to reduce the cost up to the great extent. I-FLEX is used to control the A.C. application of a home along with some additional equipment which can help the person during emergency time.

Axial Fatigue Testing Machine : KIIT Students

KIIT students have developed a project that deals with the development of an ‘Axial Fatigue Testing Machine’, which would be used to determine the axial fatigue strength and the fatigue limit of a standard specimen. Every material has a fixed value of fracture point when the body is loaded under normal conditions. If a body is subjected to fatigue; i.e., stress reversal the body tends to fail at a much lower value of stress as compared to its fracture value. This project includes discussion of various possible failures due to repeated cyclic axial loading providing solutions in the form of “testing equipment”, suggestions to increase accuracy, sensitivity and the precision of the testing equipment. The objective of this project is to illustrate by the means of a S-N curve, the failure caused in specimen of different geometry, and materials, due to repeated cyclic axial loading.

Dynamic Vibration Absorber : KIIT Students

FEM is the sophisticated tool which is the very helpful in the comparative result making. Adaptive Tuned Dynamic Vibration Absorbers (ARDVA) is used to control vibration in a structure. A dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) is essentially a secondary mass, attached to an original system via a spring and damper. The natural frequency of the DVA is tuned such that it coincides with the frequency of unwanted vibration in the original system. This results in a subcomponent of the total structure adding a large input impedance to the primary structure, thus, absorbing the inertial energy transferred from the primary structure. This often allows for the absorber to be mounted without affecting the mounting between the structure and the supporting foundation, therefore, providing a rigid mount with minimal movement.

I Web Leaf Laptop : KIIT Students

Despite a plethora of delivery mechanisms, most governments are increasingly perceived as unresponsive with no covert accountability systems and mere lip service to transparency. The availability of constantly improving technological solutions coupled with innovative managerial tools have given rise to scope and options for improved administrative structures, the highest quality governance. Affordable laptops and net cards can also bring out a drastic change over the education standard in rural public. For the citizens any encounter with the government is a harrowing experience. This project intends for a movement from government from Government to e-Government to e-Governance.

Low- Fat Chargers with i-Save Technology : KIIT Students

People often forget to switch off their room's electrical appliances. This problem was taken care of by a remotely handled mobile phone. The bicycle's tyres gave necessary friction which was converted into a current with a voltage that was enough to recharge the depleted batteries in the mobile phone. Low Fat Charger is the mechanism in the average bicycle that converts the pedaling force into the required 5 Volts charge for the Li-lon battery. I-Save is the technology unit that enables communication between the mobile phone being carried and the appliances back home. Switch off after exit to avoid wastage and switch on in advance to prepare for a cool entry to the room.

IVRS System : KIIT Students

A security essential in light of the many fires and accidents in the industrial domestic and public, service institutions like hospitals is the IVRS system. A remote security system guards against untoward incidents with electrical appliances at home and work. A wireless system enabled by the ever present mobile phone, controls the devices remotely. This saves energy and costs arising from wastage or mishaps. It also aids the lifestyle of the busy individual and the lifespan of the appliance.

Sweet Sea: KIIT Students

The project aims to get alternate resource of safe water from sea through evaporation and condensation.

Water Propellant Rocket

A water rocket is a type of model rocket using water as its reaction mass. The pressure vessel - the engine of the rocket - is usually a used plastic soft drink bottle. The water is forced out by a pressurized gas, typically compressed air. The bottle is partly filled with water and sealed. The bottle is then pressurized with a gas, usually air compressed from a bicycle pump, air compressor, or cylinder up to 50 psi. The seal on the nozzle of the rocket is then released and rapid expulsion of water occurs at high speeds until the propellant has been used up and the air pressure inside the rocket drops to atmospheric pressure. The expulsion of the water thus can cause the rocket to leap a considerable distance into the air.
